Remember video position with Video Ads

[Solved]

    Hi,

I have three feature requests and maybe a bug (I don’t know):

    Three feature requests:

    1. Can you make the “Remember Video Position” a Post Interface Option so we can turn it on/off and set it on a per video/playlist basis and not just a global setting?

    2. Can you make “Remember Video Position” work with Video Ads so that it will play the ad every time and then go back to the user’s last video position after showing the ad? Currently it looks like it skips the ad completely and just goes straight to the user’s last video position, which isn’t ideal for people buying ads on the site. Providing this functionality would make feature request number 1 above less important if you can only offer one.

    3. I think I’ve seen that you may be working on this, I don’t know, but can you add the feature to have more than just pre and post roll ads, so that we can put as many specific ads for specific advertisers at specific times in the video as we want? You can probably just take the Video Ad functionality you already have and combine it with the “Remember Video Position” functionality somehow to tell it when to play ads. That would be wonderful! Hopefully it’s that simple, but I don’t know.

    Possible bug:

When using Vimeo for video hosting and Divi as the page builder, the fullscreen button on mobile iOS doesn’t work for Firefox or Safari. I don’t know if it’s a browser issue, the player, or something else. When you try to use the fullscreen button in the player on mobile, it causes the Divi page layout to literally scroll over the video up and down the page. My workaround has been to simply tell users on mobile, “Don’t use the fullscreen button, just turn the phone sideways into landscape.” It would be nice if somebody could replicate this issue and fix it though.

I love your player! Keep up the great work!

    Thank you!

    Hello Quest,

thank you for reaching out to us and for your suggestions!

    1. We understand how this may be desirable for your specific use case. However, we are actively trying not to overwhelm our users with an abundance of options.

    2. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will definitely fix this functionality. Hopefully, you will not need 1. afterwards.

    3. We are not actively working on this, but you are right that we have gotten this request previously. I will make sure to discuss this with the team.

Possible bug: can you please provide us with a page where we can see this issue? In the meantime, using the Settings -> FV Player -> Mobile Settings -> Force fullscreen on mobile might be a better workaround.

    Thanks,
    Maria

    Hello Quest,

about the fullscreen bug – please try Settings -> FV Player -> Mobile Settings -> Alternative iOS fullscreen mode instead.

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Maria and Martin,

Thank you both so much for your help!

Maria you directed me to the correct location of the settings and when I saw that Force fullscreen didn’t work, I tried the one below it and confirmed that it does work to solve the issue. Then I saw Martin’s comment which confirms Alternative iOS fullscreen mode is truly the right choice to fix it according to the experts, which makes me feel much better.

For the rest of the day I’ll leave the setting unchanged and provide a link to where you can see the issue on my website just in case you want to take a look, but of course I’m going to change it to the correct setting tomorrow so that it works properly going forward.

FYI, in order to preserve ad functionality and ensure the ad plays every time I turned off Remember Video Position for now. The more ad functionality you can provide, the better in my opinion, because there’s no guarantee ad servers approve your site for monetization, and for companies that essentially have to become their own ad server and sell ad space directly to sponsors, a player with ad serving built in is a good thing. That’s probably a minority niche situation, but you’re one of the only players on the market I found that has all the features you do, specifically the ability to offer Rent/Buy options to customers, and ads. That’s what convinced me to purchase the player originally, rent/buy and ads. You’re one of the only players I know that does both.

Thank you for your help! You’re great!

    Hello Caleb,

we worked on making the video ads work with the video position remembering. Once we finish the automated testing routine if will become available in the Beta release of FV Player Pro.

It seems that Settings -> FV Player -> Mobile Settings -> Alternative iOS fullscreen mode did help with your issue. It’s required when the website CSS is not using z-index properly. Maybe we should enable it for all users at all times as iPhone just does not support proper fullscreen mode.

    Thanks,
    Martin

That sounds great! I’ll turn Beta on and check it out once it’s available. Thank you Martin!
